Background of the Study
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are critical to economic growth, yet many struggle with financial reporting due to limited resources and inefficient manual systems. In Gumel Local Government Area, the adoption of Accounting Information Systems (AIS) could improve financial reporting by automating data collection, reducing errors, and enhancing decision-making for SMEs.
Statement of the Problem
The manual systems currently used by SMEs in Gumel LGA often result in delays, errors, and lack of financial transparency. This study will investigate the impact of AIS on the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting in SMEs, exploring its potential to improve overall financial management.
Aim and Objectives of the Study
Aim: To assess the impact of Accounting Information System on SMEs’ financial reporting in Gumel Local Government Area.
Objectives:
To evaluate the current financial reporting practices of SMEs in Gumel LGA.
To determine the impact of AIS on the accuracy and efficiency of financial reporting for SMEs.
To identify the challenges faced by SMEs in adopting AIS for financial reporting.

What are the current methods used by SMEs in Gumel LGA for financial reporting?

Research Hypothesis
H₀: The adoption of AIS does not significantly improve the accuracy and efficiency of financial reporting in SMEs in Gumel LGA.
H₀: SMEs face no significant challenges in implementing AIS for financial reporting in Gumel LGA.
Significance of the Study
The study will provide insights into the potential benefits of AIS in improving financial reporting in SMEs in Gumel LGA. The findings could guide other SMEs in adopting AIS to improve their financial management.
